Upgrading Melissa |
My name is Melissa. This is the story of how I am bettering myself every day, in every way. |
Sometimes, I become obsessed with things. And then I spend a large amount of time online searching for/researching these things. It may be an article of clothing I want, a place I want to visit, or a piece of furniture I want to buy…but it consumes me until I either a.) find what I want, or b.) get bored.
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with furniture/décor for our new house, and one room in particular has captured my interest: My new home office.
I’m so oddly excited to decorate my own office! I don’t know why…maybe it’s because I’ve never had one before, or maybe it’s because I know I’ll be spending a lot of time there so I want to make it a happy place. Either way, I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest lately, looking for ideas.
Have you guys used Pinterest yet? If you haven’t, you should. Pinterest is a type of virtual pin board, where you can organize all of your online finds in one place. They have a handy “Pin it” button that you install on the toolbar of your browser, and when you find something you like, you simply click the button to save it to your Pinterest account. You can create different boards to keep you organized; so for instance, I have one board titled “Office Ideas,” one titled “Yum” for recipes I find, and one called “Awesomeness” for random things that I find cool/amusing (which is where I pinned the picture of the cookie monster cupcakes that I posted yesterday).
However, my favorite part about Pinterest is seeing other people’s pins. You can follow friends, or random people who have boards that you find interesting, so you get to see all of their fun internet finds online.
As if I needed another thing to distract me online. Pinterest absorbs hours of my time. I get sucked in, and no matter how hard I try to escape, I keep coming back for more. I need a “PINtervention!” (See what I did there?) ;)
It’s deliciously entertaining. You should try it…and follow me, if you want: http://pinterest.com/melissa_mckean
Now, without further ado, here are some of my favorite things found, of course, on Pinterest:

Brad does the picture hanging in our house (I just observe and direct), but it’s always kind of a crap shoot when we’re trying to figure out where to place them. He does a good job, but it would be nice to have a method to our madness. And I have found it: this is one of those why-didn’t-I think-of-that?! ideas. Read more about this easy picture placement idea.

I plan to do some form of this Map Wall in our new house, probably in the entryway. You simply frame maps from places that are important to you; so for instance, I’ll frame a map of Outer Banks, where Brad proposed; Mexico, where we went on our honeymoon; Kent, Ohio, where we both went to college; Las Vegas, where we went on our first trip together, etc. And see how handy that wax paper picture placement idea will be?! Read more about the map wall.

This is my office inspiration…at least one of them. I know I want a white desk, but I don’t know what colors I want. Here are more pictures of my office inspiration. I love the before and after photos!

YUM. Pasta with tomatoes, zucchini, and creamy lemon-yogurt sauce. Here’s the recipe.

Seriously, these are what dreams are made of. Homemade Samoa girl scout cookies.

And how adorable are these Watermelon jello shots?! There all kinds of fun jello shot ideas in this blog: 10 Jello Shots Worth the Hangover.

And check out these earrings, made from PAPER CLIPS!!! Here’s a tutorial…I will definitely be making these at some point! Some people are so creative!
See why I love this site so much?
I could make this the longest blog post in the world, and post pictures until my fingers bleed (from the typing and clicking), but you get the idea. Now, go check out Pinterest! You won’t regret it (or maybe you will, when you realize you’ve been pinning for hours on end and have lost hours of your life…but it’ll be worth it)! :)
Also, tell me, have you started using Pinterest yet? What are some of your favorite finds? Reply in the comments with a link or a picture if you like!
